Bothell Downtown Revitalization Plan & Code Update

Client: City of Bothell Community Development Department

This plan proposes to transform a segment of State Route 522 into a grand boulevard in order to connect 1) an extensive open space network 2) a local university population and 3) downtown’s surrounding neighborhoods to Bothell’s historic main street.

An illustration of the envisioned future downtown neighborhood.

Before

Main street today looking from State Route 522.

  • Conventional corridor development cuts Bothell’s downtown main street off from Bothell Landing, the City’s main Civic Open Space.
  • Main Street’s lacks visibility for potential customers on the adjacent state routes 522 and 527.
  • There is significant opportunities for infill development and a growing local university population.

Assignment

  • Make Downtown more visible.
  • Connect Main Street to Bothell Landing and the City’s open space network.
  • Connect Main Street to new infill development in the greater downtown neighborhoods.
  • Connect Downtown to the local university campus.

Outcomes

In Progress

  • FTB is working with the City and the community to refine recommendations.
  • FTB will proceed with drafting a Downtown Subarea Plan update based on the revitalization strategy recommendations in 2007.
